Luis Ortiz Hopes To Fight Dillian Whyte or Alexander Povetkin Next

Boxing Scene

Heavyweight contender Luis “King Kong” Ortiz is ready for all the top heavyweights.

So when he heard his name mentioned by former title challenger Dillian Whyte, he was very excited.

In an interview last week, Whyte made it clear that he was very willing to face Ortiz on a date in February.

Whyte has been out of the ring since August when he was brutally knocked out in five rounds by Alexander Povetkin at Matchroom’s Fight Camp in Brentwood.

A rematch with Povetkin was set for November 21, and then again for January 30 with both dates being postponed as Povetkin continues to recover from a recent battle with COVID-19.

It doesn’t appear Povetkin will be ready in February either – which could open the door for Ortiz

“I heard my name and I got excited. I called my manager (Jay Jimenez), my coach and  even Louie (DeCubas) and (Al) Haymon to ask if there’s a possibility so I’m waiting patiently,” Ortiz told BoxingScene.com.

Ortiz said that he is interested in facing all of the top names.  He believes a fight versus Whyte would produce fireworks but he is willing to face anyone in the division including Povektin.

“Look, I think me and Whyte would be a good fight. I think our fans would love it and I would love to jump in there with him and stand toe to toe with him and exchange some blows.  If he’s available and willing – I’m available and ready.  Let’s give the fans what they have been waiting for and if not I would love to fight Povetkin or any other top 5 guy who really wants it. So who ever wants it I’m here. I’m available and I’m ready, Ortiz stated.

Ortiz was last in action in November when he destroyed Alexander Flores inside of one round.
