Usyk: A lot of Guys Who I Would Like To Fight – Like Deontay Wilder

Boxing Scene

Former undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, 33-years-old, is hoping to fight the best boxers in the weight class – and one of them is former heavyweight champion  Deontay Wilder.

“There are a lot of guys who I would like to fight and would be happy to fight, like Deontay Wilder,” Usyk told The Sun.

Wilder has been out of the ring since February, when he was stopped in seven rounds by Tyson Fury at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

In the aftermath, Wilder made wild allegations – like claiming that his water was spiked and accusing Fury of loading his gloves.

Usyk wants no part of that discussion.

“I wouldn’t want to comment on his allegations but I do think the defeat was fair. Tyson Fury was the better boxer at the time,” Usyk said.

At the moment Usyk is the mandatory challenger, under the WBO, to unified champion Anthony Joshua.

Joshua is more focused on a full division unification with Fury in 2021.

Usyk has given hints that he would be willing to entertain an offer to step-aside, in order to allow Fury-Joshua to take place.

One thing is for sure, Usyk fully intends to stand firm on his mandatory position.

If a step-aside deal is not reached, then Usyk is ready and willing to face Joshua anywhere. He doesn’t have a problem with fighting the British superstar in the UK. Usyk had previously traveled over to UK to win fights against Tony Bellew and Derek Chisora.

“As for me I don’t care where the fight takes place, I will put up a show wherever. However, I think Britain would be really cool because they are really great fans and really nice people,” Usyk said.
