Xander Zayas Getting Tough Work from Adrien Broner, Robert Easter

Puerto Rican welterweight prospect Xander Zayas is getting tough training work from former world champions Adrien Broner and Robert Easter, who are both getting prepared for their ring returns in the coming months.

Zayas is hoping to have a busy scheduled in 2021.

The native of Santurce and a resident of Florida, Zayas trains at full steam with high-caliber boxers who have captured world championships at different weights.

Besides Broner and Easter, Zayas (6-0, 5 KOs) has trained alongside two-time middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs and unbeaten prospect Richardson Hitchins.

“It has been a super good experience for me. They have taught me in and out of the ring … I like it. I’m learning a lot and that’s what it’s all about,” Zayas told  Giovanny Vega.

“Inside the ring they have taught me many other things, like staying calmer, focusing and reacting strongly.”

The challenge for the Puerto Rican has been unique, because every time he goes into the ring for a training session, he does so against experienced boxers with different styles.

That forces him from the outset to change his technique and strategies.

“With some I have to be faster, with others I have to calm down a little more, with others I have to sit on the punches or be explosive and fast. They are different styles and that helps me … to evolve as a boxer,” said Zayas, recognizing that it has been difficult to keep training through the holidays.

The young prospect, who was lucky enough to see action three times in 2020, keeps training with one day off a week in the city of Sunrise, Florida.

“I’m ready for the call,” said Zayas in reference to his return to the ring.
