Holyfield Says Negotiations Ongoing For Mike Tyson Trilogy Fight

Former four-time heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield, 58-years-old, is in ongoing discussions to face career rival Mike Tyson for a third time.

The two boxers collided twice in the 90’s.

Holyfield, who was a massive underdog at the time, shocked the world when he stopped Tyson in ten rounds in 1996.

Their 1997 rematch ended in three rounds, after Tyson was disqualified for biting off a piece of Holyfield’s ear.

Tyson, 54-years-old and a former undisputed heavyweight champion, retired from the sport in 2005.

He returned to the ring in November 2020 – fighting to an eight round draw with former four division champion Roy Jones Jr. in a pay-per-view exhibition clash.

The event was a massive success – with nearly 1.6 million purchases.

Following that fight, Holyfield issued a direct challenge to Tyson.

Both boxers believe an exhibition trilogy would generate tremendous numbers on pay-per-view.

“The thing is that if it’s meant to be it will happen, either way, it is what it is,” Holyfield told The Sun. “What I can tell you is that my team is talking to Mike’s management, so I’m waiting for a decision. They are communicating right now. The thing is I’m still training for this, I know it will be some day this deal will happen and I’m ready for him. I’m doing OK.

“My views are you always help people. I try to pass on the goodness that was passed onto me. Where an opportunity is available, I like to make the best out of what I have. I believe if I fought Mike the fight will generate $200 million. It will be the biggest fight there is. That’s the honest truth. I think Mike has my message already. It’s a decision he has to make now and we both have to be in an agreement.

“I’m not going to tell anybody what I’m going to do – my strategy I’m planning on using against Mike – I don’t want anyone to know. I’m happy if Mike fights me.”
