Campa out of Feb. 13 Broner fight, team member positive for COVID

Fighting

Well, that didn’t last long.

Just days after news broke that Adrien Broner would end a two-year hiatus against Mexico’s Pedro Campa in a February 13th Showtime main event, “AB” is in need of a new opponent. Fernando Barbosa revealed earlier this afternoon that Campa was out, while Mike Coppinger later clarified that one of his team members tested positive for COVID.

Showtime now have a month to find someone new and, hopefully, more palatable. Campa (31-1-1, 21 KO) figured to be Broner’s (33-4-1, 24 KO) easiest assignment since at least the latter’s 2016 finish of Ashley Theophane, and while Broner desperately needs a win, Campa was not the sort of opponent to draw eyes away from Smith-Vlasov or Diaz-Rakhimov that same evening.

Otto Wallin vs. Dominic Breazeale can’t carry the show alone.

Anyone on the PBC roster you’d like to see step up? Broner has been jawing with Regis Prograis for ages, so that would be fun. Or maybe they can try and make the most visually unappealing stylistic matchup in history against Rances Barthelemy.
