Robeisy Ramirez: If Not This Year – By 2022 I’ll Be Fighting For a World Title

Boxing Scene

Two-time Olympic gold medal winner Robeisy Ramirez (6-1, 4 KOs) made a leap of quality and quantity in 2020.

In 2021, he wants to continue his quick push forward to a world title at the featherweight limit of 126-pounds.

His head trainer, Ismael Salas, believes the boxer will be ready for a world title shot after two more fights.

One of the biggest fights to be made for Ramirez, is a rematch with Shakur Stevenson. Ramirez defeated Stevenson in the 2016 Olympic games.

But, Stevenson is already competing at the super featherweight limit of 130-pounds – and Ramirez is not looking to move up before winning a world title at featherweight.

Ramirez, after seeing action five times last year, is hoping to be a lot more active in 2021.

“[2020] was a super tragic year for the world and something special for me. Despite everything that happened I had the opportunity to fight five times, when there were many others who could not get in the ring. In sports it was a year that allowed me to keep rising in professional boxing,” Ramirez said to George Ebro.

“[Ending the year with a knockout victory] was the goal, to close out the year with a big win. We weren’t looking for the knockout, but we knew we could do it. The preparation had been very good and that allowed me to finish the fight when I decided. We let the opponent show what he was bringing and then we did our thing.’

“I don’t have a fixed return date, but I hope it’s a big year. I wish they’d call me as soon as possible. I hope the promoter will level up my level of opposition and Top Rank has realized that I have the confidence and talent. Superior opponents are coming. But the more quality the opponents have, the better I fight. If it’s not this year, by early 2022 I’ll be fighting for a world title.”
