Lopez to Kambosos: ‘Be careful what you ask for’

Fighting

WBA, IBF, and WBO lightweight titlist Teofimo Lopez has a mandatory order from the IBF to face George Kambosos Jr next, and while talks for the bout — possibly in Australia — are going on, Lopez manager David McWater told our Michael Woods that the fight isn’t close to being done yet, with respect to what the Kambosos team say.

As for the fighters, they’ve both got the clash on their minds, with Kambosos (19-0, 10 KO) taking to Twitter to direct a bit of light trash talk toward Lopez:

Teofimo (16-0, 12 KO), of course, fired right back, and Kambosos to his credit kept it going:

You have to love the spirit from the 27-year-old Kambosos, who last fought in October, beating Lee Selby by decision in London. It wasn’t the most dominant win for Kambosos, but he showed a lot of grit and determination, he’s a top 10 sort of guy at the weight, though it’s toward the back of the top 10 if you’re not a sanctioning body.

But in all analytical honesty or whatever, Kambosos will or would be an enormous underdog against Lopez. It’s frankly not a fight anyone is asking to see; if Lopez came in any closer than a -2000 betting favorite or something like that, I’d be shocked, and that’s not meant as disrespect to Kambosos, though I can see how it would sound like it is, and why he might take it as such.

Honestly, do you see Kambosos having any shot? Is there anything he has in the tool box that gives Lopez genuine concern?
