Former unified welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman (29-1) recently went ‘live’ on social media and spoke on several topics as he interacted with fans.
Thurman, who fights under the Premier Boxing Champions banner, was asked multiple questions about Danny Garcia’s performance in his most recent fight against Errol Spence and about potentially facing Garcia in a rematch. Thurman defeated Danny Garcia by split decision in 2017 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.
Garcia has been more active than Thurman in recent years and lost a unanimous decision to WBC/IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence in their pay-per-view showdown in December. The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania fighter looked tentative for much of the fight and didn’t try to engage the naturally bigger Spence very often.
“Me and Danny Garcia, man. Danny Garcia’s last performance was whack. He threw a few things – how are you going to throw the only flurry – the only flurry was in the last 15 seconds. He was scared, boy. He was scared that whole time. None of these dudes want to take a hit on television. He was in the pocket. He didn’t even do nothing to EJ,” stated Thurman.
Another fan commented that Thurman doesn’t want to face Garcia in a rematch because Garcia the result will turn out differently. The comment brought a chuckle from Thurman before he explained that he doesn’t think Garcia is the same fighter he was when they fought the first time.
“Handle me in a rematch? Oh my God. He barely threw any punches. He was in the pocket and he didn’t pull the trigger. He was right there in the pocket. I don’t know if he got that dog in him no more. That Philly boy, I don’t know if he got that dog in him anymore. He was very cautious. Very timid. He be a timid fighter now hoping to land something,” Thurman explained.
The 32-year-old Thurman last fought in July, 2019 when he lost a unanimous decision to Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas ,Nevada. Multiple injuries and the coronavirus pandemic have delayed his return to the ring.
In the live stream he explained that he has wiped the slate in 2021 and that he plans on returning to the ring in the near future.
