Five division champion Floyd Mayweather, who recently turned 44, feels confident that his pay-per-view fight with Youtube star Logan Paul will move forward as planned.
Mayweather was scheduled to face Paul in an exhibition fight on February 20, as the main event of a pay-per-view card. The event is being financially backed by the Fanmio app.
While the fight was officially announced on December 6 – the venue, rules, weight and undercard bouts were never revealed.
A few weeks ago, both sides confirmed the event was being pushed back to a later date.
Mayweather and Fanmio are hoping that a later date, possibly in the summer, can open up the door for a scenario where a venue can have spectators.
As COVID cases begin to decline, certain cities are softening their restrictions.
“I know it’s going to happen. We’re just going to make sure everything’s right, everything’s where it should be,” Mayweather told TMZ.
At the moment, Mayweather is not actively training, but says his body is in good shape.
“Well, I’m not in training but I always try and maintain my weight and keep my body in some type of good condition. I’m not in the best shape of my life but I’m in good shape. I can take my shirt off at the beach,” Mayweather said.
Mayweather retired from boxing in August of 2017, with a perfect 50-0 record, when he stopped UFC star Conor McGregor in ten rounds at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
He did return the following year, when he flew over to Japan and blew away kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in the first round of their exhibition bout.
Paul, 25-years-old, made his pro debut in November 2019 and lost a controversial split decision to Youtube rival KSI. Mayweather, while much smaller than his younger opponent, holds a massive edge in skill and experience.
