Boxing Scene

Hard punching Kazak heavyweight Zhan Kossobutskiy (15-0) ) won the vacant WBA International title on Saturday (Feb 20) in Hamburg with an all too easy knockout win over overmatched Nigerian Onoriode Ehwarieme (18-2), who was floored late in the third and knocked out in the fourth.

This fight headlined Universum’s promotion held at their gym. Kossobutskiy is ready for bigger fights.

Swedish light heavyweight Oscar Ahlin (20-2) takes on German Alpay Yaman (12-1) with the vacant IBO Continental title at stake on March 28 in Brussels.

This matchup headlines an ONLY O1NE Management show billed as All Eyez On Brussels. Ahlin has been a pro for ten years now but this is his first title fight. Yaman on the other hand has been a pro since 2017 and this is his second attempt at the very same belt. His only loss came at the hands of Alexander Rigas (12-1), who lost his unbeaten record this past weekend with a points loss to Faton Vukshinaj (12-0-2).

British light heavyweight Callum Johnson, who just signed a promotional deal with Queensberry Promotion, has pulled out of the fight for the vacant EBU title against Russian Igor Mikhalkin. EC Boxing won purse bids last year but had not yet come out with a date and site.

Former French champion at middleweight and welterweight Hyppolite Annex has passed away at the age of 88. In 1962 Annex challenged Hungarian great Laszlo Papp for the EBU 160 lb title but came up short. Annex retired in 1963 with a 19-3-6 record.
