Jair Valtierra Decisions Jerson Aguilar Over Ten in Mexico City

Lightweight prospect Jair Valtierra defeated Jerson Aguilar by unanimous decision Friday night at the FIT Center in Mexico City.

Scores were 99-91, 99-91, and 98-91 for Valtierra, who improves to 14-0, 7 knockouts. 

Valtierra, who resides in Leon, Mexico, had not fought since June 6, defeating Aurelio Hernandez by unanimous decision. In his previous fight on March 13, the 19-year-old outboxed Luis Eduardo Rizo over eight rounds to win by unanimous decision. 

From the opening bell, Valtierra was effective fighting from distance, throwing and landing combinations to the head and body of Aguilar. Undaunted, Aguilar would attempt to counter with hooks and right crosses. 

Sensing he was down on the scorecards during the second half of the fight, Aguilar would walk Valtierra down against the ropes, connecting with more hooks to the head and body. Valtierra continued being effective in countering Aguilar with combinations to the head and body. 

During the final two rounds, both fighters stood in the pocket to trade combinations, but Valtierra was busier and more effective. After the final bell sounded, and in a gesture of god sportsmanship, both fighters embraced. 

Valtierra, who recently signed a promotional deal with All Star Boxing, is scheduled to make his U.S. debut on a ‘Boxeo Telemundo’ telecast in May. 

Aguilar, who resides in Mexico City, dropped to 10-6, 3 KOs. 

In the co-feature of the Producciones Deportivas card, junior middleweight Diego Carmona of Mexico City improved to 8-1, 7 KOs by stopping Michoacán’s Mauricio Estrada (5-3, 1 KO) at 2:36 of round 5. 

In a clash of junior featherweights who resides in Mexico City, Ernesto Salgado defeated Julio Cesar Juarez (4-9, 1 KO) by unanimous decision. Scores were 77-74, 77-74, and 76-75 for Salgado, who improves to 12-0, 9 KOs. 

Junior featherweight Jonathan Torres (5-3) pulled off the minor upset on paper, defeating Miguel Angel Ramirez (7-1-1, 6 KOs) by split decision. One judges scored the bout 58-56 for Ramirez, while the other two judges scored the bout 59-58 and 58-57 for Torres.
