Bohachuk: Always Wanted This Fight With Brandon Adams

The last thing that Serhii Bohachuk wanted to do was to turn on the television and watch the opponent he was supposed to fight.

The only thing that he’s wanted to do since witnessing Brandon Adams advance his career without him is revisit plans to get him in the ring.

“I’ve always wanted this fight and I’m glad it has come back around,” Bohachuk told BoxingScene.com ahead of their rescheduled junior middleweight fight. “I was a little frustrated with how things happened.”

The two will meet atop the 2021 season premiere of NBC Sports Network’s Ring City USA series which will air live this Thursday from Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. The bout comes three months after its original date, from which Bohachuk (18-0, 18KOs) was forced to withdraw on short notice after testing positive for COVID-19.

Both boxers had completed their training camp, only for the unbeaten Ukrainian to fall ill and lose out on the fight just six days before he was due to step into the ring. Adams (22-3, 14KOs) went on to face late substitute Sanny Duversonne whom he stopped inside of two rounds.

Bohachuk congratulated Adams after the fight, though not before issuing a warning of lingering unfinished business between the two. A second training quickly resumed in anticipation of getting this fight back on the books.

“Fortunately, I didn’t have [COVID] as bad as the rest of my team,” notes Bohachuk, who scored a 6th round knockout of Alejandro Davila last September to extend his perfect knockout-to-win streak. “I had it just long and (severe) enough to not be able to fight but I have fully recovered and was at full strength throughout this training camp.

“I’ve spent the past few months training hard. I’ve recovered quickly. I’m ready for this fight. If I can sum it up in one word, it’s that I’m hungry.”
