Euro News: Mikhalkin-Bauderlique, Sauerland To UK, Sergio Garcia, More

Boxing Scene

EC Boxing won purse bids for the fight for the vacant EBU light heavyweight between Igor Mikhalkin (24-2) and Mathieu Bauderlique (20-1) with an offer for 51,000 Euro. Promoter Erol Ceylan plans to stage the fight in May or June with the venue not decided yet.

Mikhalkin returned this past weekend after a long coronavirus related layoff on the Beterbiev-Deines undercard in Moscow and stopped Denis Tsaryk in the fifth.

Swiss-Italian light heavyweight David Faraci (15-0) has tested positive for COVID-19 and his fight against Pierre DiBombe (19-0-1) for the vacant EU light heavyweight crown that was set for this coming Saturday (March 27) is now postponed until May. EuroProm will still promote it and the site remains in St Nazaire, France.

EBU super welterweight champ Sergio Garcia (33-0) is, according to the EBU, to defend the title against Dylan Charrat (20-0-1) in Paris on May 29 with All Star Abiteboul as promoter. However, Garcia will also fight on the Matchroom / OPI since 82 / DAZN show in Barcelona April 23. It is thus expected that Garcia will vacate the title. Opponent for the Barcelona show is not announced yet.

BILD writes that Team Sauerland are leaving Germany and will from now on be based in the UK. The move is hardly surprising as promoter Nisse Sauerland already lives in London and Sauerland doesn’t have many fighters in Germany anymore – and no TV deal.

Kalle Sauerland, the older of the two brothers, works for Comosa / WBSS, as their Chief Boxing Officer.

Swedish super lightweight Anthony Yigit (24-1-1) has been training for a few weeks in Miami, Florida, and is waiting for a fight date. Yigit has been out of the ring since June 2019. While in Florida he met with former opponent Ivan Baranchyk, who stopped him in seven in a fight for the IBF title. Anthony also held the EBU title and defended it twice.

Unbeaten Finnish welter prospect Oskari Metz (12-0) will from now on be co-managed by UK-based Pole Martin Mikolajczak and Pekka Maeki. Metz will continue to fight out of Finland and has his sights set on the EBU title.
