Results and highlights: Tszyu batters, stops Hogan in five

Fighting

Dennis Hogan got to wear his shorts for his battle with Tim Tszyu this morning, albeit censored on the broadcast, but that’s the only victory he managed en route to a fifth-round stoppage loss.

Tszyu (18-0, 14 KO) was his usual stalking self, walking through Hogan’s (28-4-1, 7 KO) jabs to tee off with power punches in the corner and against the ropes. Tszyu’s body attack really started to make an impact in the third round, and he had the Queensland-based Irishman essentially dead to rights in the waning seconds of the fourth. Hogan managed to survive and came out looking to make a stand, but a monstrous left uppercut sent him to the canvas, and Tszyu continued the assault until a flurry on the ropes prompted Hogan’s team to throw in the towel.

Hogan now finds himself in an 0-3 hole, having dropped a questionable decision to Jaime Munguia and been stopped by Jermall Charlo in previous efforts, while WBO top contender Tszyu nets his fourth consecutive finish and could be looking at a title shot against Brian Castano before too long.
