As Liam Williams readies himself for this weekend’s middleweight title fight against champion Demetrius Andrade, Williams tells RingTV that he’s become a much more well-rounded fighter since teaming up with trainer Dominic Ingle. Williams cites his dedication and focus but also says with his personal life also in a good place, he believes everything is coming together for him to pull off the upset over the reigning titleholder.
But despite having some trash talking exchanges with Andrade, Williams says he’s still realistic about what he’s facing and credits Andrade as a formidable opponent who hasn’t become a champion for no reason.
“As much as I want to slag him off, you have to be real and be fair and give him his credit as well. He’s very good, they don’t give out world titles for fun. He does deserve credit and he’s got my respect as a fighter.”
That said, Williams still says the timing is right for him to take this fight as he’s clicking on all cylinders.
“I just think at this moment in my life, I have way too much in the locker for him and I won’t be denied,” said Williams. “I heard him say, ‘These U.K. fighters, I’ve beat a couple, they all come over here and say they’re going to knock me out. I beat Brian Rose; I beat Luke Keeler.’ I thought, with respect to both–I like them personally–they’re not on my level.”
Williams continued by saying that in the condition he’s currently in that it’s going to take not only a very talented fighter to beat him, but one who’s also also going to match his determination and desire, questioning whether Andrade will be willing to go to the depths he will to take this fight.
If Williams is to in fact win this weekend, he’s going to surely have to pull out all the stops, but he’ll get his chance this Saturday on DAZN.
