With a “third fight” (exhibition bout) between Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield losing steam, it seems Tyson may have turned his attention instead to Lennox Lewis.
Let’s be clear up front: If Lewis and Tyson get in a ring again, it will be an exhibition, not a full, sanctioned fight.
But Lewis, 55, did confirm that he’s had discussions with the 54-year-old Tyson.
“Not yet, but soon — maybe. We’re talking!” Lewis said tonight at the Ruiz-Arreola PPV, where he’s working for FOX as a broadcaster.
The lining of Lewis’ suit jacket had a print of himself and Tyson from the poster of their 2002 fight, which Lewis completely dominated. Lewis stopped Tyson in the eighth round in Memphis to retain the WBC and IBF heavyweight titles.
Lewis also noted Tyson “might be here tonight” in California at the Ruiz-Arreola show. It’s worth noting that Tyson has indicated he will not be working with Triller again, which he did for last November’s exhibition with Roy Jones Jr. Tyson being in attendance doesn’t mean anything specific, but this and the PBC broadcast mentioning the idea could crack the window on PBC looking to make some money off the exhibition wave, and if you’re going to do it, no better choice than doing it with Mike Tyson.
But we’ll see.
