Verdejo indicted for allegedly murdering pregnant woman

As the horrendous story behind a murdered young Puerto Rican woman develops, Felix Verdejo — who’s been formally accused of being behind the killing — has just been indicted by a grand jury, with the possibility of the death penalty.

Keishla Rodriguez’s body was recently found in a local body of water in Puerto Rico and an FBI complaint accuses Verdejo of physically assaulting, drugging, and binding the women before throwing her body off a bridge and shooting at her in the water. Reports suggest that Rodriguez had an intimate relationship with Verdejo outside of his marriage and when she went to confront him about her being pregnant with his child, things took an unthinkably violent turn.

Following the discovery of the body Verdejo turned himself in to authorities and is currently being held without bail.

“What I want is justice for Keishla,” said her mother, Keila Ortiz. “We’re going through a pain that Tony and I never imagined.”

Verdejo, 27, was a former Olympian and once a highly touted professional prospect who was at one time being promoted as the next big Puerto Rican star. That, however, turned out to be pretty short lived as a motorcycle accident largely derailed Verdejo’s career who only recently worked his way back towards world title contention only to be knocked out by Masayoshi Nakatani last December.

We certainly extend our prayers and well-wishes to Rodriguez’s family and will have more on this story as it continues to unfold.
