Nery vs Figueroa, more: Boxing TV schedule for May 15

Fighting

DAZN, 2:00 pm ET, Joshua Buatsi vs Daniel Blenda Dos Santos, Lerrone Richards vs Giovanni De Carolis, Tommy McCarthy vs Alexandru Jur, Gamal Yafai vs Jason Cunningham, Dalton Smith vs Lee Appleyard. This show was originally meant to be headlined by a 130 lb world title unification between Terri Harper and Hyun Mi Choi, but Harper injured her hand again so that’s off. Now it has five set fights (at the moment), and it’s not a bad card, with three European title fights. I guess it depends on how much European title fights mean to you. Dalton Smith is a really good prospect, and Joshua Buatsi is back with Virgil Hunter now training him. We had planned to have coverage when Harper-Choi was heading the card, because that’s a world title unification, but without that this one’s falling by the wayside this particular week as I’m on vacation.

SHO, 10:00 pm ET, Luis Nery vs Brandon Figueroa, Danny Roman vs Ricardo Espinoza, Xavier Martinez vs Juan Carlos Burgos. We will still have live coverage of this one, with Wil taking the whole shebang. It’s a really good main event, one that could have real fireworks between Nery and Figueroa. Nery has the WBC 122 lb title, while Figueroa has the WBA’s secondary 122 lb title, and the WBA will allow a unification even though that’s generally not how the secondary belts work, because Figueroa’s got powerful backing and they, you know, want to do it. WBA rules are flexible. Roman is still a contender, Martinez is a guy on the way up. Solid card for Showtime and PBC. BLH will have live coverage.
