Josh Taylor (17-0) and Jose Ramirez (26-0) will finally meet in the ring on Saturday night. The ESPN main event will take place at the Virgin Hotels in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The highly anticipated fight for all of the super lightweight belts has been talked about for awhile but had been put on hold for several months because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Taylor’s trainer Ben Davison is no stranger to big fights in Sin City, having been in WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury’s corner on multiple occasions. Taylor has fought in Las Vegas once before but this will be his first time fighting in the main event.

“It is a great place to come and a great place to box. It is fantastic for Josh. It is his first time headlining Vegas so I am excited for him to have his first opportunity to do that,” Davison explained.

Ramirez holds the WBC and WBO titles while Taylor has the WBA and IBF 140 pounds straps.

The 30-year-old U.K. native has been installed as a 2.5-1 favorite by many bookmakers but those numbers don’t mean much to Davison. He has a lot of respect for the skillset and heart that Ramirez brings to the ring but he is very confident that his charge will come out with the victory.

“I think he is a top quality fighter. You don’t get to an undisputed level type fight unless you are a top quality fighter and that is exactly what he is. He brings his own challenges for Josh to overcome. Josh brings his challenges for Ramirez to overcome and that is why it is an undisputed fight and it will be a fantastic fight I am sure,” Davison told BoxingScene.com.

A potential Fury versus Anthony Joshua heavyweight clash is regarded by most observers as the biggest fight that can be made in the sport.but Davison believes that Taylor versus Ramirez ranks just behind that fight.

“I think besides Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, this is probably the biggest fight in boxing, an undisputed level fight. The other one is in the heavyweight division so it is only behind that one. Canelo and Billy Joe was a big fight too but I believe this is behind only Fury and Joshua,” said Davison.
