Last week, it was announced that Manny Pacquiao (62-7-2) will return to the ring after a 2 year hiatus against WBC and IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence (27-0). The fight will headline a FOX pay-per-view event that will take place at a venue in Las Vegas.
Multiple bookmakers in Las Vegas and offshore have set lines on the fight. The majority opened Spence as a 5.5-1 favorite.
Manny Pacquiao Promotions’ president Sean Gibbons doesn’t agree with those odds and is very confident that the Filipino Senator will pull off the upset.
“You know it’s like this, it is one heck of a long shot but I don’t think the books realized that Manny Pacquiao isn’t a normal human being. He is focused, he is coming to win, he’s going to figure it out in his mind and if for some reason he doesn’t – it is not because he wasn’t prepared or wasn’t trying,” Gibbons told BoxingScene.com.
Spence last fought in December when he decisively outpointed Danny Garcia at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. It was the 31-year-old Spence’s first fight since his horrific car accident in October 2019.
Even though he was able to defeat Garcia decisively, Gibbons doesn’t believe that Spence is the same fighter that he was before the accident.
“I don’t think Errol Spence is what he was before the car wreck. I really don’t. He was pretty easy to figure out at that time. The Senator just has to get inside of the long jab because Errol likes to control the distance and if he can do that then he is going to have a lot of success. The Senator has very fast, deceiving feet and that is what people don’t realize and what Keith Thurman didn’t realize. The feet move fast and get in position and boom!” Said Gibbons.
