A prospect vs prospect matchup has been added to the undercard of Vasyl Lomachenko’s June 26 return against Masayoshi Nakatani. Once-beaten amateur standout Fazliddin Gaibnazarov (9-1, 5 KO) of Uzbekistan takes on undefeated Quinton Randall (8-0, 2 KO) in a welterweight showdown.
The 29-year-old Gaibnazarov is coming off a stellar amateur career that included silver medals in both the Asian and World amateur championships in 2015, and a gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
His one professional blemish came in May 2019 via a unanimous decision loss to Mykal Fox (22-2, 5 KO), a tall, awkward southpaw. That fight wasn’t without its share of controversy, as Gaibnazarov was deducted a point for holding and another point for hitting with the back of the glove, which resulted in him losing the fight rather than pulling out a majority decision draw.
Quinton Randall is coming off a win against William Jackson (13-3-2, 5 KO) on the undercard of April’s Jake Paul-Ben Askren PPV. He is also the first boxer to defeat Clay Collard, winning by unanimous decision in only his third professional fight.
Randall has his own amateur bonafides, albeit not on the same level as Gaibnazarov. He is a two-time USA Boxing national champion as well as a former captain of the national team.
He’s also come through some serious adversity, including a stint in prison and the tragic losses of his daughter and son.
Randall will likely be the underdog in this matchup, but this is a good opportunity for him to boost his profile over an Olympic champion and product of the fearsome Uzbekistan amateur program.
