Sunday’s not-a-real-boxing-match boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and aspiring artisanal guillotinist Logan Paul will not have judges ringside, and will not produce an official declared winner.
ESPN’s Marc Raimondi cites a spokesperson from Florida’s Department of Business and Professional Regulation as saying there will be no judges on-site, and no winner will be announced.
Florida’s Boxing Commission will provide a referee who can stop the fight at their discretion, or end the proceedings due to a knockout. But, any announced decision will only come from the authority of the promoters.
At this point, if you and your money are soon to be parted for this pay-per-view, you know what you’re getting. Mayweather and Paul won’t be wearing headgear. Beyond that, the authenticity of the main event couldn’t get any lower. If Mayweather and Paul fought in a rented birthday bouncy castle, it wouldn’t be much more absurd than what’s on tap for Sunday.
Badou Jack is fighting a last minute replacement because Jean Pascal delivered a four-alarm cup of pee. Jarret Hurd is a 93% favorite at last odds check. Chad Johnson is calling his exhibition a “bucket list” activity and a one-time thing.
If that’s how you choose to spend your Sunday, I hope you and your $50 have a wonderful weekend.
