Williams injured, won’t fight on Davis-Barrios undercard

Former 154 lb titleholder Julian “J Rock” Williams was set to make his long-awaited ring return on Saturday’s Davis-Barrios PPV, but Keith Idec reported Sunday that the 31-year-old Williams suffered an elbow injury and is out of the fight.

Williams (27-2-1, 16 KO) was supposed to face Brian Mendoza on the show. The Philadelphia native hasn’t fought since he was stopped in five in an upset loss to Jeison Rosario in Jan. 2020 on FOX, in his hometown.

Idec also says that Williams is hoping the injury isn’t serious and that he can reschedule with Mendoza (19-1, 13 KO), who may or may not be able to get a very short-notice replacement opponent and stay on the PPV. If they do find someone, don’t expect much, but it would be nice for Mendoza to not lose a fight date and payday.

Williams has previously had surgery on the injured elbow. Williams hasn’t updated anything on social media about the injury, but he’s off the card.
