After fighting all across North America for the last six years, former WBC super middleweight champion David Benavidez will return to his native Phoenix to face fellow former titlist Jose Uzcategui atop an August 28th Showtime card.

Showtime officially announced the venue today; while they made no mention of the undercard, Francisco A. Salazar revealed earlier this month that David’s brother Jose would end a lengthy layoff that day.

Benavidez (24-1, 21 KO) vs. Uzcategui (31-4, 26 KO) would have been a dream fight back in 2018, when Benavidez held the WBC title and Uzcategui had just finished dominating Andre Dirrell for the interim IBF belt. It’s lost a bit of luster these last few years, largely due to Uzcategui’s struggles. “Bolivita” lost his belt to Caleb Plant in his first defense, then lost an upset to decision to Lionell Thompson later that year. He’s since smashed a couple of journeymen in Mexico, but it’s hard to imagine him posing a threat to “El Bandera Roja.”

But at least there’s Jake Paul vs. Tyron Woodley the next day, right?
