With Tyrone Woodley set to collide with Jake Paul in boxing’s next sideshow, both fighters made an appearance yesterday for an official press conference leading into the Aug. 29th bout taking place in Cleveland, OH. And while some might think of this as a one-off opportunity for Woodley to make some cash in the squared-circle, Woodley says he’s treating this as a new career path and is taking his training extremely serious.
“This is an opportunity for me to sprint into the boxing lane,” Woodley said. “But also, I’m preparing accordingly. I’m preparing if I was fighting Canelo [Alvarez]. I’m training like that right now.”
At age 39 Woodley emphasized that this bout against Paul will not be his only one, saying that he’ll be fighting real boxers going forward and that he’s going to be a problem to be dealt with. And despite Woodley coming off a four-loss streak inside the UFC, Woodley claims that boxing is bringing the fun back while he physically prepares himself for battle.
Woodley fancies himself a boxer that’s been trapped inside a wrestler’s body so says now is the chance to let loose and do something he’s always wanted to, suggesting that boxing is his suited for him.
