Yarde, British title tripleheader highlight Aug. 28 Queensberry show

Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions is emptying the stables for its August 28th “Night of Champions” in Birmingham, including light heavyweight contender Anthony Yarde and a trio of British title fights.

Yarde (20-2, 19 KO) fights TBA in what the press release explicitly calls “a warm-up” before a planned rematch with Lyndon Arthur. He’s twice been booked to face Emin Atra this year, only for Yarde to suffer a tooth abscess in February and Atra to pull out due to injury last week; it’s unclear whether the German will once again get the call.

The British, Commonwealth, and European super bantamweight belts will be on the line when current Brad Foster (14-0-2, 5 KO) faces Jason Cunningham (29-6, 6 KO). Foster won the British belt against Josh Wale in 2019, added the Commonwealth belt Ashley Lane two fights later, and defended them both against Lucien Reed and James Beech Jr. Euro champ Cunningham, meanwhile, had a good thing going as a speedbump for rising British fighters before upsetting Gamal Yafai for the belt in May.

Up at super featherweight, Anthony Cacace (18-1, 7 KO) will once again attempt to defend his British super featherweight belt against Lyon Woodstock (12-2, 5 KO). Cacace pulled out of the first planned date last year after getting an infection after dental surgery, then Woodstock popped for COVID in February.

Akeem Ennis-Brown (14-0, 1 KO) vs. Sam Maxwell (14-0, 11 KO) for the former’s British and Commonwealth belts is another do-over. The two were supposed to fight in March before Ennis-Brown pulled out on late notice.

The card also features Liam Davies (9-0, 4 KO) defending his English bantamweight belt against TBA, plus middleweight Nathan Heaney (12-0, 4 KO). super lightweight Eithan James (5-0, 0 KO), debuting super lightweight Willo Hayden, and light heavyweight Ezra Taylor (1-0, 1 KO)
