Castano: I Think Charlo Will Take Another Fight, Then Face Me in Rematch

WBO junior middleweight champion Brian ‘Boxi’ Castano confirmed his intention to pursue a rematch with WBA, WBC, IBF champion Jermell Charlo – but the Argentine boxer is not confident that the feeling is mutual.

This past Saturday night in San Antonio, the two champions took part in a great fight – which ended in a twelve round split draw.

One judge saw Castano as a 114-113 winner, another judge inexplicably gave Charlo the win with a controversial tally of 117-111, and another saw it a draw with a score of 114-114.

“I think it was a tough fight, but I felt like a winner, fights are fights and he had everything going for him… the location, the fans, the judges, but I have to keep working and with new goals,” said Castano to ESPN Deportes.

“I have to improve some defensive things in order to avoid the punches that I took and more so against a born counter-puncher like Charlo. We are leaving [this fight] with a half bitter taste. I think it was my chance, I won it by two points, but these are the things that happen.

“I think he underestimated my boxing a little, my size, he was confident because I am shorter, a boy with less reach, but I showed him that not only am I fast and I throw a lot of punches, but I can hurt him. It has been a great fight and we showed where we stand today.

“I do not see much desire [from Charlo] to do a rematch, I think he wants to go in another direction. I want to unify, but when they told him about the rematch he changed the question, he said something else. I think he is going to wait a little while, take another fight and then fight with me. For me, my next fight is the rematch, that is what I want.”
