Joshua: Usyk just as good as Fury, I must be serious about him

Fighting

There’s no doubt that unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is a bit bummed out that he won’t get his opportunity to become undisputed champion by facing Tyson Fury next, but Joshua tells Sky Sports that he’s still fully focused on his scheduled fight with mandatory challenger Oleksandr Usyk on September 25.

Joshua says he doesn’t intend on dwelling on the fact that the Fury fight fell through and says he’s still completely focused on his training because he thinks Usyk is just as good as Tyson Fury is.

“I don’t want to point any fingers. I was definitely ready. We move forward. I’ve got another challenger who’s good, just as good. I have to be serious about him now. I would have loved to have boxed for the undisputed championship because it was a big fight for the public. We had everything set up. I have to move forward and not keep dwelling.”

The heavyweight titleholder would continue by saying that there’s really no telling on where he could go from this Usyk fight — on to possibly fight Fury, Wilder, Ortiz, or Ruiz — and says he’s really looking to lean into legacy defining fights. Of course Joshua will have to get past Usyk in this outing before he hones-in on his future.
