Earlier this week, Bellator MMA fighter Dillon Danis shared what he claimed was a text from Brazilian Jiu Jitsu great Viktor Doria, who claimed that Logan Paul and Anderson Silva would headline a September 19th event in Dubai. As Danis is a prick of the highest order, I decided to take it with a grain of salt, but Paul’s manager, Jeff Levin, now tells ESPN that his charge is indeed “discussing a boxing match” with “The Spider.”
Per Levin, they have yet to determine whether the fight would be an exhibition or a sanctioned match. As far as why Doria would have insider info, BJJ is huge in the UAE, hence why the Abu Dhabi Combat Club is the premier no-gi grappling competition. It wouldn’t be surprising at all to see a grappling match on the card.
Paul (0-1) spent eight uneventful rounds in the ring with Floyd Mayweather last month, gassing out around halfway through the eight-round exhibition and using more clinching than punching in the later rounds. Silva (2-1, 1 KO), by contrast, absolutely clowned Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. two weeks later.
It’ll be a sideshow just like all of the lesser Paul’s ring appearances, but if it means Silva gets rewarded for flipping the script on Junior, I’m down.
