Luis Nery Now Training With Jorge Capetillo in Las Vegas

Boxing Scene

Luis Nery is looking to return to action in the very near future.

When he does step in the ring he will have a new face in his corner.  Jorge Capetillo has notified BoxingScene.com that he now will be working with the former bantamweight champion.

The 26-year-old Mexico native last fought in May when he was stopped by Brandon Figueroa in 7 rounds at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California in a Showtime main event.

In recent years the Zanfer Promotions fighter has changed trainers often having worked with Eddy Reynoso, Freddie Roach and Ismael Ramirez. He fights under the Premier Boxing Champions banner.

Capetillo said that he will train Nery at his base of operations in Las Vegas, Nevada and believes that he will be a world champion again soon.  He will continue to campaign in the super bantamweight division.

Nery captured the WBC bantamweight title in 2017 when he stopped Shinsuke Yamanka in 4 rounds. He failed a drug test but wasn’t stripped of his title because the WBC believed that the positive finding was a result of food contamination.  The organization ordered a rematch which occurred in early 2018.  Nery won again by stoppage but was stripped of his title after missing weight.

In addition to Yamanka, the Tijuana, Baja California based fighter holds wins over McJoe Arroyo, Juan Carlos Payano and Aaron Alameda.
