Pacquiao: I’m fighting Spence for legacy, Mayweather fought a YouTuber for money

During this video interview with Marcos Villegas of Fight Hub TV, Manny Pacquiao fields some questions about his upcoming title fight with unified champion Errol Spence. Pacquiao says he could’ve easily taken novelty fights just to earn some bucks, but is instead striving for something much deeper, looking to solidify his already astounding legacy in the sport of boxing.

0n being hungrier in this fight than he was against Thurman

“It’s been two years, it’s a good thing for me that I have time to rest for the longest time in my career. It help a lot, it help my body and my mind and this time around I’m so excited and feeling like I’m young.”

On feeling he has something left to prove

“Oh yeah, it’s a challenge that they might think, ‘Oh, Manny’s career is over and he’s old’ so (it’s) something I need to prove, I’m not done yet.

“I can easily fight an easy opponent or non-boxers. I can easily pick an easy win, but I pick the best because I want to add more to my legacy of accomplishment.”

On if he expects Spence’s southpaw stance to give him problems

“It’s a challenge, especially because he’s taller than me. We have a strategy that we can use against a southpaw. I know he always coming inside and he want to fight toe-to-toe so that’s good.

On Spence possibly trying to out-box him instead of mix it up

“We prepared for that. We anticipate that he might use his advantage — reach advantage and tall — so he can possibly use that advantage.”

On what he thinks will be the toughest aspect of this fight

“The challenge is if he will fight moving around, jabbing, jabbing, jabbing, using his advantage. There’s a consideration and that’s our focus also.”

On Mayweather saying he’ll give Spence pointers to beat him

“I don’t think Floyd can help Errol Spence. Errol Spence knows what he’s doing.”

On Mayweather claiming that he still needs to fight for money

“He’s fighting with a YouTuber just to earn money. And I’m fighting the best to add to my legacy, so that’s different. To fight an easy opponent for the money or to fight one of the best to add to your legacy. It’s different.”
