Kell Brook Hopes Amir Khan Deal Can Be Reached

Boxing Scene

Former welterweight champion Kell Brook is certainly on board with a potential domestic grudge match with Amir Khan.

Promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom is very interested in staging that fight.

Hearn is currently in discussions with Khan, with the hope of getting everything together to make the contest happen.

There have been numerous attempts in the past few years to make the collision come off.

Brook, 35-year-old, is crossing his fingers that a deal is finally reached this time around.

“I’ve been quiet [on the fight] because there’s more of a chance of it happening then. When I’m loud. Listen, that’s the fight that’s happening. Get to it, Khan. Listen, put it on a little contract, and we’re there. There’s a lot of talks. This year it’s happening; it’s got to happen,” Brook told IFL TV.

“I think bar Fury-AJ, I still think it’s the biggest fight in British boxing. I think everyone will still get very excited about that fight. He [Hearn] knows I want that fight.”

Khan has been out of the ring since the summer of 2019, when he knocked out Billy Dib.

And Brook was in action back in December when he was stopped by WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford.

The big sticking point in getting the two rival together will be the money, as both boxers want to get paid as much as possible for the fight.

“As I said, both guys want as much money as possible. So, we are a small piece of that. If there’s a deal to be done, there’s a deal to be done, but we’ll see. The other thing is, Amir Khan genuinely wants the fight, I believe,” Hearn said.
