Eubank-Elbir set for Oct. 2 on Sky Sports

Fighting

Apologies for citing ESPN so much today, but that’s where everything’s breaking.

Mike Coppinger reports that Wasserman Boxing and Sky Sports “have struck a multi-fight deal” that will kick off October 2nd, when Chris Eubank Jr. takes on Germany’s Sven Elbir.

A bit of Twitter searching reveals that the pair were initially supposed to fight on September 11th.

The 27-year-old “Batman” (18-1, 14 KO) has fought exclusively in his home country during a nearly seven-year pro career, most notably dropping a decision to current IBF top contender Patrick Wojcicki in 2018. Based on his lack of meaningful victories, he’s not exactly a step back towards the top for Eubank (30-2, 22 KO), whose only fight since 2019 saw him beat Marcis Morrison by unanimous decision in May.

As the former WBA interim champ, Eubank will presumably be ordered to fight “world” champ Erislandy Lara at some point, but the man doesn’t seem to have any sort of consistent plan or trajectory. I suppose we’ll see after this latest disappointing opponent.
