Results and highlights: Amanda Serrano dominates, Daniel Dubois gets first round knockout

Amanda Serrano successfully defended her WBC and WBO featherweight titles, winning a clear and deserved unanimous decision over 122 lb titleholder Yamileth Mercado in the Paul-Woodley co-feature from Cleveland.

Serrano (41-1-1, 31 KO) was the crisper boxer throughout, and also had more power, both of which are usually the case when she’s in the ring. She lit up Mercado (18-3, 5 KO) at times, including hurting her in the ninth and 10th rounds.

Scores were 97-93, 98-92, and 99-91. Bad Left Hook had it a clean shutout, scoring the fight 100-90 for Serrano.

Serrano, 32, was asked if she may now want to revisit plans to fight lightweight champion Katie Taylor, and said she’s for it, but is focused on featherweight for the time being.

“I want all the titles at featherweight, I want to become undisputed, and then later, what a great fight it would be, undisputed vs undisputed,” Serrano said.

This was the mismatch expected. Dubois has blown through lots of club fighters already, and did it again here. Dubois (17-1, 16 KO) dropped Cusumano (19-4, 17 KO) three times and finished things at 2:10 of the opening round.

Give credit to Cusumano who kept getting up and really was trying his best to land an equalizer, but it just wasn’t happening.

“The best is yet to come,” Dubois said. “This is just another step in the right direction for me. Maybe Trevor Bryan (is next), he’s got a title, I want him next.”
