Deontay Wilder is putting the finishing touches on his training ahead of his October 9 trilogy bout with Tyson Fury, and while the ex-WBC titleholder went silent at their one presser in June, he’s spoken plenty on his own terms since, and continues to do just that.
“Come October 9th, I will be REINVENTED, I will be REJUVENATED, I will be VIOLENT, and I will be VICTORIOUS,” Wilder said on social media.
Fury-Wilder 3 has been brewing since their Feb. 2020 rematch, where Fury (30-0-1, 21 KO) dominated Wilder (42-1-1, 41 KO) and scored a seventh round stoppage when the Wilder corner waved the white flag. The third fight has been delayed various times for various reasons, but all systems are currently go for next month.
Since that second bout, Wilder, 35, has had a lot of controversial statements and behaviors, and some have written him off. But he does seem very serious about his preparation for this fight. He’s got a new lead trainer in Malik Scott, but ultimately it will most likely come down to whether he lands his bomb right hand and puts Fury away or doesn’t.
