Dmitriy Salita, promoter of heavyweight contender Otto Wallin, is hoping that a big win in two weeks will secure his boxer a rematch with WBC world champion Tyson Fury.
Wallin suffered a twelve round unanimous decision loss to Fury in 2019.
But, during the fight he inflicted two horrendous cuts on Fury – and there were serious concern that ringside officials would stop the fight, which would have given Wallin a TKO win.
Wallin, who is coming off a February unanimous decision win over Dominic Breazeale, is scheduled to fight Dillian Whyte on October 30 in the UK.
Whyte holds the WBC’s interim-title and a victory over him would certainly put Wallin in line for a second fight with Fury.
“Out all the great fighters that Tyson Fury beat the one fighter that gave him most trouble, caused most controversy with the cut, who landed more punches than Wladimir Klitschko and Deontay Wilder in their first fights combined is Otto Wallin,” Salita told Sky Sports.
“Otto had two impressive wins since that outing and a win over Whyte would make him the most eligible opponent for Fury and in my mind the second-best heavyweight in the world based on merit.
“Otto is still getting better. The fight with Whyte is a big test and a massive opportunity to get the rematch with the WBC heavyweight champion.”
Fury was in action earlier this month, when he overcame two knockdowns to score a sensational knockout of Deontay Wilder in the eleventh round of their trilogy fight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The next move will come in the first quarter of 2022 – and it may very well come against the winner of the Whyte-Wallin encounter.
