Eddie Hearn, who works with heavyweight contender Dillian Whyte, has confirmed that his boxer received the bout agreement for the mandatory fight with Tyson Fury.
Last month, Fury’s co-promoter, Frank Warren, secured the promotional rights with a monster bid of $41 million.
The fight is being targeted for April 23, at a stadium in the UK.
Whyte, who two fights ago was knocked out by Alexander Povetkin, is a huge underdog in the fight.
Fury is coming off a sensational knockout win over Deontay Wilder, in their trilogy fight in October 2021.
Hearn believes Whyte is a very live dog in the contest – and he feels his fighter might be hungrier than Fury at the moment.
“He’s a tremendous puncher, a big strong, rugged heavyweight. Tyson Fury, coming off the Wilder fight, he was down twice in that fight. Wilder is a big puncher of course and Fury, at the moment on paper, is the best heavyweight in the world, but Dillian Whyte can beat all the heavyweights on his night,” Hearn told Talk Sport.
“He has the equalizer as he’s a tremendous body puncher, a left hook that can turn your lights out as well. Fury is the favorite going into the fight, but Dillian Whyte is a live dog in that fight and a lot of it comes down to Tyson Fury’s hunger. He’s very hungry on Instagram, but when he comes down to it – how much do you want it? Dillian wants it bad, so I think he’s got a great chance.
“We’ve just got some contracts this weekend. I’m with Dillian’s team tomorrow to have a chat through it. Back seat for me in that one. My old pal Tyson Fury, I’ll let him have the limelight on that one. It’s a good fight and hopefully it all gets made. There was a lot of talk for a long time about step asides and all this, but in the end what is happening is what we thought would happen, which is Tyson Fury against Dillian Whyte and AJ vs Usyk. Two good heavyweight fights and hopefully the winners fight the winners.”
