Hearn: Khan Was Absolutely Shot To Pieces, But He Never Gave Up

Boxing Scene

Eddie Hearn, who at one time promoted both Amir Khan and Kell Brook, reviewed their welterweight clash from this past Saturday night at Manchester Arena.

The two former world champions finally collided after a ten year rivalry – with Brook easily dispatching Khan in six rounds.

Khan, fighting for the first time since July of 2019, was rocked in the very first round and then wobbled by Brook’s bigger punches throughout the fight.

The end finally came in the sixth, when the referee stepped in to prevent Khan from taking any further punishment.

Hearn felt the 35-year-old Khan was a minor shadow of the boxer who unified world titles at junior welterweight and was ranked among the best in the world at one point in time.

“Watching the fight I had a couple of thoughts. Number one is; this would’ve been such an unbelievable fight in their primes, because it was still exciting because of the rivalry,” Hearn told The DAZN Boxing Show.

“We have to give massive props to Amir Khan because he was absolutely shot to pieces going into that fight. He was wobbled from a jab in the first round, his legs were all over the place from the first bell, but he wouldn’t give up.

“Fair play to him, he never stopped trying. And he knew in his heart of hearts, actually he would’ve known in training camp that he was shot to pieces. But he never stopped trying to win.”

According to Khan, he will discuss his boxing future with family members – but he openly admits that his career has likely come to a close after taking too many punishing shots in the bout with Brook.
