Conor Benn: If Josh Taylor Comes To 147 – That Could Be a Massive Domestic Fight

Boxing Scene

Welterweight contender Conor Benn is very willing to face a former world champion in a big domestic showdown, but says his two of his targets – Kell Brook and Amir Khan – are demanding way too much money.

Back in February, Brook scored a one-sided stoppage win over Khan in a long-awaited grudge match.

Benn’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has explored the scenarios of matching his boxer against Khan and Brook.

Hearn advised Benn that both boxers were looking for at least $10 million to take part in such a fight.

“Kell wanted 10 million and that is silly. Half of that is more realistic. I know he is looking for one last pay cheque. Khan’s team has been in touch with my team recently too and greed is a terrible thing. I could understand the winner of that fight – Kell – coming out and wanting to fight again because he looked great,” Benn said to The Sun.

“But Khan looked like he needs to call it a day – but when you are out there spending 500,000 on Lamborghinis, I can see why you need another payday.”

Another possible blockbuster for the future, at least on a domestic level, is current undisputed junior welterweight champion Josh Taylor.

Taylor has mentioned in recent interviews that he’s seriously looking at the possibility of moving up to 147 – after experiencing weight struggles in his last few bouts.

“Josh Taylor is moving up,” Benn said. “Me and Josh Taylor get on well, there is no needle there, he is a great fighter, just look at his resume. But if he moves up to welterweight it could be a massive domestic fight between us. Brook and Khan are at a crossroads but Josh Taylor is hot property.”
