French veteran Yvan Mendy (47-5-1) won the vacant EBU lightweight last night in Pont Sainte Maxence with a unanimous decision over Italian Gianluca Ceglia (17-4-1).

Mendy now has Finn Edis Tatli as mandatory challenger. Tatli beat Mendy back in 2015 in a fight for the then vacant EBU title but it was close enough to merit a rematch.

Polish cruiser Krzysztof Glowacki (32-3) eased back into action by stopping Mexican Francisco Rivas Cruz (16-4) in four., in Walcz Saturday night.

It was the first win for Glowacki since 2018. He challenged for world titles in both 2019 and 2021 but came up short losing to Mairis Briedis and Lawrence Okolie.

Italian super welterweight Orlando Fiordigiglio (37-3) won the national title with a points win over defending champ Marco Papasidero (10-3-4) on a show in Prato Friday evening. The 37-year old Fiordigiglio won on scores of 99-91, 97-93 and 96-92.

GYM Promotions in Canada has hinted on social media about a super welter tournament involving WBC titleholder Patricia Berghult (15-0), the former undisputed former champ Cecilia Braekhus (36-2) and IBF champ Marie Eve Dicaire (18-1).

The plan is to have Berghult from Sweden defending her title against Braekhus on August 13 in Cali, Colombia. Media in both Norway and Sweden has reported the fight as on but according to Berghult’s promoter Kamran Kabinejad nothing is signed yet.

The winner of Berghult vs Braekhus should then take on Marie Eve Dicaire in the fall.

In the headliner on the Cali show, GYM’s Bridgerweight Oscar Rivas takes on Lukasz Rozanski. It should be noted that Braekhus, who is Norwegian, has Colombian roots just like Rivas.

Former European champ Maurice Tavant has passed away at the age of 85, reports leprogres.fr. Tavant turned pro in 1959 and retired in 1971 with a record of 51-16-4. He won the EBU (then only known as the European) title in 1965 and lost it to Dane Borje Krogh in 1966.
