HBO has officially announced that WBO, WBA, IBO super lightweight champion Kali Reis (19-7-1, 5 KOs) will star opposite Jodie Foster in the next installment of the popular series True Detective.
The upcoming season, called ‘True Detective: Night Country,’ will be filmed in Iceland.
According to the HBO, the storyline will revolve around the disappearance of six men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station in Ennis, Alaska. The season will follow Detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Reis) as they deal with their own internal demons while trying to solve the case.
“We are tremendously excited to return to the ‘True Detective’ franchise and to be working with the multi-talented Issa López, whose singular vision for her ‘Night Country’ installment will be beautifully realized with Jodie Foster and Kali Reis in the starring roles,” said Francesca Orsi, Executive Vice President of HBO Programming.
Reis made her acting debut in the independent film, “Catch The Fair One.” She helped develop the story with director Josef Kubota Wladyka, and also received a special Jury Mention for Best Actress at the Tribeca Film Festival where the film won the Audience Award. She was then nominated for Best Female Lead at the Film Independent Spirit Awards. Kali recently wrapped principal photography opposite Sean Penn and Tye Sheridan in the film, “Black Flies,” which Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire is directing.
Reis was last seen in the ring in November of last year, when she secured a ten round split decision win over Jessica Camara. The fight was streamed by DAZN as part of the undercard to Demetrius Andrade vs. Jason Quigley at the SNHU Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire.
