Austin “No Doubt” Trout improved his record to 35-5-1 with a majority decision win over Florin Cardos (21-4) on Friday night in Germany.
The former super welterweight champion has now won 4 fights in a row since his 2019 split draw against Terrell Gausha.
At 36-years-old, Trout’s goal is to become a world champion again.
He won his world title in 2011 when he defeated Rigoberto Alvarez by unanimous decision in Mexico. He successfully defended the WBA world super welterweight title 4 times before losing to Alvarez’s younger brother Canelo in 2013 in front of a packed house in San Antonio.
“I thank God for the opportunities Legacy Promotions have been giving me. It was good to get back to work after over 11 months off. I’m blessed to have came out victorious. My goal is to stay active so I can have an honest shot at some title contention. I have good rankings in a couple of organizations and I plan on going for the gold again. It will be nice to wear a world championship belt again. Since that’s what I want, that’s what I’m going to get,” Trout told BoxingScene.com.
Trout came close to becoming a two-time champion in 2018 when he lost a majority decision to Jermell Charlo.
His biggest victory came in his fight that preceded his loss to Canelo Alvarez. In December, 2012, Trout defeated Hall of Fame member Miguel Cotto via wide unanimous decision.
He also has faced the likes of Jermall Charlo, Erislandy Lara, and Jarrett Hurd.
