Euro News: Camkiran-Kossobutskiy Update, Tom Schwarz, Zsolt Erdei, More

Boxing Scene

Third time wasn’t the charm when the EBU for the third time called for purse bids for the vacant heavyweight title. For the third time there were no bidders for the fight between co-challengers Umut Camkiran (18-0) and Zhan Kossobutskiy (18-0).

As was the case last Monday when no one bid for the second round of purse bids both men are now removed as challengers and this time they won’t be back.

How about a rematch between Agit Kabayel and Dereck Chisora?

German heavyweight Tom Schwarz (27-1) is sidelined with COVID-19 and his fight, scheduled for July 29 in Ferizaj, Kosovo, against Emir Ahmatovic (12-1) for the vacant WBA Continental title, is thus postponed

The show as a whole is still on though – but now with Elvis Hetemi (16-1) and Deniz Altz (11-3) fighting for the vacant German (BDB) super middleweight title as the main event.

EBU super middleweight champ Kevin Lele Sadjo (17-0) tunes up against Georgian Badri Gogichashvili on August 15 in Cannes, France.

Sadjo is also set to defend the title against mandatory challenger Emre Cukur on September 17 in Creil.

The Survivor is an excellent movie but there is, as far as I can tell, only one real life fighter in film and that is Hungarian great and former WBO light heavyweight and cruiserweight champ Zsolt Erdei, who had a small role as a cornerman.

Erdei’s two wars with Hugo Hernan Garay in 2004 and 2005 still stands out – he did look lucky to win both times but only after terrific performances from both men.

As BoxingScene.com reported earlier, the “Batalla En Cali” on August 13 is postponed. The show was to have featured Oscar Rivas vs Lukasz Rozanski for the WBC Bridgerweight title and Patricia Berghult defending the WBC super welterweight title against Cecilia Braekhus.

There have been some signs in recent weeks that all wasn’t well with the show as Team Berghult never got the tickets for the long trip from Sweden to Colombia.
