Amilcar Vidal Looks To Take Care of Business in Hometown Clash

Boxing Scene

Middleweight Amilcar Vidal, Jr. could be in line for a significant fight later this year, but must first take care of business tonight in his hometown.

Vidal will face Gabriel Diaz at the Estadio American Box in Montevideo, Uruguay. The fight between Vidal and Diaz will precede the main event bout between junior featherweights David Carmona and Alejandro Santiago.

Both 10-round bouts will air live on EstrellaTV (9 p.m. ET/ 6 p.m. PT).

Vidal (15-0, 12 knockouts) last fought on April 2, stopping Osmar Dominguez Chamorro in the second round. The win over Dominguez took place over three months after Vidal won a close unanimous decision over Martin Bulacio.

The 26-year-old has fought on significant cards in recent months, including a Showtime Championship Boxing telecast on July 17 of last year, defeating Immanuwel Aleem by majority decision.

Promoter Sampson Lewkowicz has high expectations for Vidal, who he believes can become a legitimate contender at 160 pounds.

“All fights have risks,” Lewkowicz told Boxingscene early Friday morning. “Today, Amilcar has to demonstrate all his work that he did in the gym to come out victorious in spectacular fashion to return to PBC.”

Diaz (12-3, 4 KOs), who resides in Rafaela, Argentina, stopped journeyman Nicholas Brito in the second round of his last bout on July 1. He has split his last four bouts, with a loss coming by disqualification due to Diaz biting opponent Alejandro Silva in the left arm on February 27 of last year.

Also on the card will be an eight-round welterweight bout between hard-hitting Roiman Villa (23-1, 23 KOs) of Rosario, Venezuela and Colombia’s Andres Garcia (13-6-1, 8 KOs). Villa has won his last four bouts, all by knockout, since losing to Marcos Villasana in April 2019.

Villa is also promoted by Lewkowicz.

The card will be co-promoted by Lewkowicz, Paco Presents, Producciones Deportivas  Carlos Andres Tello.
