Chocolatito Open To Facing Donaire, But Says Main Priority is Estrada Trilogy

Boxing Scene

Former four division champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez is only focused on a year-end trilogy fight with Juan Francisco Estrada.

Gonzalez won a twelve round unanimous decision over Estrada in 2012. They collided for a second time last year, with Estrada winning a very close twelve round split decision.

Estrada recently vacated the WBA’ super’ title at super flyweight, in order to remove an obstacle that would have delayed a third meeting with Gonzalez.

In March, Gonzalez stayed busy by dominating Julio Cesar Martinez over twelve rounds.

In a recent interview, another multi-division champion, Nonito Donaire, expressed his desire to drop down in weight for a clash with Gonzalez.

Chocolatito is very open to making that fight, but his top priority is the trilogy bout with Estrada.

“Anything can happen,” said Gonzalez to Izquierdazo about a fight with Donaire. “As long as they pay me well. He is one of those really good fighters, but the fight with ‘Galo’ Estrada is the one that the people really want to watch, and the one they are asking for.”

Gonzalez said that he is willing to fight any champion or emerging star in his weight class, such as Joshua Franco, Fernando Martinez or Kazuto Ioka.

“They have their own plans, but we are willing to fight anyone, and see what happens,” Gonzalez said.

However, the only opponent that Roman does not want to face is Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez. The two boxers are good friends and share the same promoter in Teiken Promotions of Japan.

“We can’t fight, because we are both with Teiken Promotions,” Gonzalez pointed out. “We are family, and the one in charge is Mr. Honda, and he is asking me for the fight against Gallo Estrada”.
