The goal that Mary Spencer (6-0, 4 KOs) and her team set when they forged an alliance with Eye of the Tiger was clear: to quickly scale world rankings and win a world championship by the summer of 2023.
Now ranked 1st in the IBF world rankings, 4th in the WBA rankings and 10th in the WBC’s 154-lb category after only 6 pro fights, Spencer will now have the chance to claim her rightful place on the world stage when she will fight for the WBA International and WBC Silver titles on September 9 against Mexico’s Cynthia Lozano (9-1, 7 KOs).
In a scheduled 10-round fight, the Spencer vs. Lozano duel will be featured on the Christian Mbilli vs DeAndre Ware undercard with the WBC Continental of the Americas as well as the super middleweight WBA International titles on the line.
The card will be broadcast live from the Cabaret du Casino de Montreal on the Punching Grace network.
Spencer needs no introduction. After her resounding success at the amateur level, where she claimed both national and international titles, Spencer is now taking the boxing world by storm as a pro. Her decisive victory against ex-world champion Chris Namus, whom she brought to her knees with a spectacular 1st-round knockout on June 23, was the springboard that propelled her through the ranks.
Eye of the Tiger has begun to hammer out the details of the fight that will pit Spencer against the current word champion of the super welterweight division, Quebecer Marie Eve Dicaire, by the end of 2022.
When I started fighting at the pro level, I could never imagine that I’d be ranked as a #1 contender or that I’d be fighting for titles so quickly, and I’m thrilled to be doing so! Women’s boxing is currently booming and we all have to promote and support it by not hesitating to take on challenging bouts and organizing fights that fans want to watch. And this is exactly the direction we want to take in this fight with Lozano, Marie-Eve Dicaire’s latest opponent, asserts Spencer.
Although Lozano does not have Spencer’s Olympic experience and amateur ring smarts, she does have world championship experience. In her last fight, Lozano confronted Marie-Eve Dicaire, the current IBF titleholder at 154. Lozano’s unconventional style and punching power have allowed her to come out on top in almost all of her bouts, with 7 of her 9 victories by knockout.
