Subriel Matias will not alter any of his plan after the postponement of his title fight against Argentine fighter Jeremias Ponce.
The fight was originally scheduled to take place on October 15, as part of the undercard to the heavyweight fight between Deontay Wilder and Robert Helenius.
Ponce was unable to obtain a visa in time to enter the country.
The boxer from Fajardo will continue working in Mexico, despite the fact that there is no date or exact location for the rescheduled fight.
The two boxers have been ordered to collide for the vacant 140-pound title of the International Boxing Federation (IBF).
Matías has been training with Jacob “Panda” Majal since May in a town at 11,000 feet in the Central American country.
“Subriel is going to continue training there for another month. He may stop for three days to rest his body, but on the fourth he has to return to training,” his promoter Juan Orengo, of Fresh Productions Boxing, told Giovanny Vega.
“In a world title fight, the boxer has to have his body conditioned. This is the way to be quartered. Julio César Chávez and Juan Manuel Márquez were there at some point. It is the best thing for him because of the tranquility and height [of the location].”
Orengo assured that there is a safe agreement to stage the fight in November and that there is no room for another postponement. However, the date and venue of the card has not been finalized yet.
“Showtime has three dates and the fight will be included on a card as soon as [Ponce] has everything squared. He will not have problems with the documents because the [United States] government has already communicated [with him].”
This is not the first time that Matías has had his training camp in Mexico. As recently as January, he had four months of preparation in Culiacán.
