(Brooks, CA) – In front of a sold-out crowd at the newly opened Cache Creek Casino Events Center, local fans saw hometown favorite Alan Sanchez (22-5-1, 10 KOs) defeat previously unbeaten Saul Bustos (15-1-1, 8 KOs), in one of the best fights put forth by legendary local promoter Paco Damian, and a fitting tribute to his mentor, Don Chargin Productions.
With the win, the bout resulted in a Sanchez winning the WBA Fedecentro welterweight title, which will result in a future big fight.
The contest was competitive with both fighters having notable moments, but it was the length and distance control of Sanchez that got him the victory. A head clash created late drama. Sanchez was cut but fought tough to get the edge on the official cards.
The judges scored the fight 97-93, 95-95, and 96-94.
The co-main event we saw an upset as Roberto Silva (12-3, 7 KOs) won a split-decision victory over Blake “The Beast” McKernan (13-2 6 KOs) in an eight-round bout.
Featherweight Juan Miranda (7-0, 2 KOs) got a six-round split decision win over local favorite Ivan Vergara (8-2, 2 KOs). The scores were 58-56 x2, and 56-58.
Super featherweight Kevin Montano (4-0, 2 KOs) engaged in a Northern California fight of the year contender defeating Kevin Perez (1-1-1) via a highly entertaining back-and-forth fight. In the end, the scores were 39-37, and 40-36 (x2), in Montano’s favor.
The opening bout saw heavyweight Federico Pacheco (1-0) get a four-round decision over game veteran Josue Vargas (3-4-1, 2 KOs). Pacheco, the younger brother of Diego Pacheco won by a unanimous decision. Pacheco is coached by Jose Benavidez Sr.
