Regis Prograis-Jose Zepeda: PPV Weigh-In Results From Carson, California

Boxing Scene

Regis Prograis comfortably came in below the super lightweight limit of 140 pounds Friday for a second straight fight.

The former WBA champion stepped on the California State Athletic Commission’s scale at 139 pounds for his 12-round title fight against Jose Zepeda on Saturday night in Carson. That’s the same amount Prograis weighed for his previous appearance, which resulted in a sixth-round technical knockout of Tyrone McKenna on March 19.

The New Orleans native failed to make the contracted weight for back-to-back bouts before he met McKenna, respective knockouts of Juan Heraldez and Ivan Redkach. He hired a nutritionist thereafter, which helped the 33-year-old southpaw manage his weight properly.

Zepeda, who hasn’t had as much difficulty making weight as Prograis in recent years, officially weighed 139.4 pounds.

Zepeda (36-2, 28 KOs, 1 NC), of La Puente, California, is the WBC’s number one-ranked contender in the 140-pound division. Prograis (27-1, 23 KOs), of Katy, Texas, is ranked second by the WBC.

They’ll fight for one of the three championships Josh Taylor (19-0, 13 KOs) has relinquished since the Scottish southpaw became boxing’s second fully unified 140-pound champion of the four-belt era in May 2021.

Their 12-round fight will headline a five-fight pay-per-view show from Dignity Health Sports Park. The official weights for the first four televised fights are listed below.
