Spanish veteran Kiko Martinez (44-11-2) has relinquished the EBU featherweight title. According to Espabox his next fight could be against WBA ‘regular’ champ Leigh Wood (26-2) on January 28 in the UK but this is to be confirmed.

As for the EBU title it will now be contested by Italians Mauro Forte (17-0-2) and Francesco Grandelli (16-1-2) with OPI since 82 promoting.

The parties representing heavyweights Agit Kabayel and Agron Smakici reached an agreement today (Dec 1) and thus avoided purse bids – but what they agreed on is not known.

For now Kabayel is still booked to fight an opponent to be announced on January 28 in Bochum.

Newly crowned EBU super welterweight champ Milan Prat (18-0) makes a voluntary defence of the title against an opponent to be announced on February 4 in Creteil (France). 

Mandatory challenger is still German Abass Baraou (12-1), who however is sidelined with a shoulder injury.

WBC International bridgerweight Kem Ljungqvist (14-0) is sidelined with a hand injury and his fight on December 25 in Skive (Denmark) against Swede-Tanzanian Awadh Tamim is off.

Ljungqvist is still to defend the title on May 14 in Denmark.

Former two-time Olympian Enrique Rodriguez Cal passed away last week at the age of 71 due to ALS, reports Spanish media.

Rodriguez Cal represented Spain in two Olympic games (1972 and 1976) and won a bronze medal in 1972 fighting at flyweight. He also won bronze and silver in two European championships.

As a pro Rodriguez Cal went 22-7-1. won the Spanish title but lost in three attempts to win the European belt.
